This is a vintage Japanese black lacquered wooden storage box designed for a tanto or sword fittings. The lid is decorated with a gold maki-e paulownia crest, a design historically associated with the Toyotomi family.

The exterior features a smooth black lacquer finish, while the interior is finished in a glossy reddish-brown tone. It contains two removable lacquered wooden rests to support a blade or mount. This box can be used to store a tanto, short wakizashi components, sword fittings, or other collections of this size.
The lacquer surface exhibits minor scuffs, light scratches, and general signs of aging from past handling. The outer wooden storage box shows natural wood-grain darkening and minor wear consistent with age.
