Japanese Horagai Triton’s Trumpet Shell Buddhist Ritual Horn 33cm SG88
Description
Japanese Horagai Triton’s Trumpet Shell Buddhist Ritual Horn 33cm
This is an original Japanese Horagai, a traditional shell trumpet made from a natural Triton's Trumpet shell. Historically used by Yamabushi (mountain ascetics) and in Buddhist rituals, it is both a powerful musical instrument and a striking decorative object.
The shell features a dark-finished mouthpiece and is decorated with a traditional purple tasseled cord (Shubusa). This piece has been tested and produces a clear, resonant, and deep tone characteristic of ritual horns.
Size:
Length: 33.0 cm / 13.0 in
Width: 18.0 cm / 7.1 in
Weight: 1006 g / 2.22 lbs
Simplified Playing Guide:
The Horagai is played similarly to a brass instrument (like a trumpet or trombone).
1. Moisten your lips and press them firmly against the mouthpiece.
2. Create a "buzzing" vibration with your lips while blowing steady air.
3. Use your abdominal muscles to maintain a strong air pressure for a deep, long-lasting sound.
Experienced brass players will find this instrument relatively easy to master.
Condition:
The shell is in good functional condition. There are natural surface cracks on the exterior (please refer to IMG 9 and IMG 10), but they do not penetrate through to the interior and do not affect the sound quality. The mouthpiece shows minor lacquer wear consistent with age.
