Description

Seto / Oro tea bowl.

This is a tea bowl from Oro kiln, a hidden kiln known to have operated in Seto. (One of the so-called hidden kilns that engaged in illicit production.) A distinctive feature of Oro kiln wares is that many of them resemble Korean Karatsu ware, with glazes blending together in a similar manner.

Condition & Appreciation** There are repair marks extending from the rim down the body. The chipped area on the rim has also been restored with repair material. *(Image 2, left side / Close-up: Images 12, 13)* Despite its age and the passage of time, this tea bowl retains its profound beauty and character. The blending of natural glazes, reminiscent of **Korean Karatsu ware**, adds to its unique aesthetic appeal. The carefully executed repairs not only preserve its functionality but also enhance its historical charm, embodying the Japanese philosophy of **Wabi-Sabi**—finding beauty in imperfection and the passage of time.
