This is an antique Japanese matcha tea bowl (chawan) featuring an iron glaze in the Iraho style, dating from the Meiji to early Showa period. It comes with a protective cloth pouch (shifuku) and a wooden storage box bearing calligraphy.

The bowl is characterized by a rustic reddish-brown to yellowish-brown iron glaze, accented with whitish mottled patterns. The unglazed foot ring exposes the natural clay and displays distinct throwing and trimming marks. The inscriptions on the wooden box include the name "Kojitsuan" on the exterior lid. The interior lid bears a signature with a cipher (kao) and characters that appear to read "self-made tea bowl" (jisaku chawan), though the specific maker remains unidentified.
