This is an antique Japanese wooden Funa Tansu-style drawer chest, traditionally used as a suzuribako (inkstone box) for calligraphy tools. Its deep patina and beautifully aged surface evoke the aesthetic of Edo-period craftsmanship.
This piece is crafted from solid natural wood and finished in a dark lacquer that has developed a distinctive character over time.
The construction and iron handles are typical of Funa Tansu, compact storage chests used by merchants and craftsmen in historic Japan.
