Japanese Antique Wooden Jizo Statue Edo Period w/ Forehead Jewel & Beaded Ornaments WB196
Edo Period (17th–18th Century) –

Description:
This is a Japanese antique wooden statue of Jizo Bodhisattva, believed to have been crafted during the Edo period (17th–18th century). In Buddhist tradition, Jizo is a symbol of compassion and salvation, and this piece—featuring a serene expression and graceful posture—radiates spiritual depth and reverence.

The statue features a rare inlaid Byakugo (a white urna or curl of hair on the forehead), original and intact, which is a sacred symbol in Buddhist iconography. It also retains its original Yoraku (ritual beaded ornaments), an exceptionally rare feature for statues of this age and type.

Given the high level of carving precision, the balanced form, and the dignified facial features, this piece is believed to have been crafted by a highly skilled Buddhist sculptor. Carved from natural wood and beautifully aged over time, it reflects both the devotional craftsmanship and aesthetic sensibility of its era. This is a spiritually and artistically significant statue.

Ideal for display in a personal altar, as interior décor, or as part of a Japanese Buddhist art collection.
