Description

This is a magnificent and heavy masterpiece of Japanese metalwork, handcrafted by the celebrated bronze artist Hirai Shoho (平井昇甫). Created using the sophisticated Cire Perdue (Lost-wax casting) method, this vase features extraordinary high-relief (Uki-bori) decorations of various auspicious fruits.

Lost-wax casting is a laborious process where a wax model is destroyed to create the final bronze piece, ensuring that every detail is captured with lifelike precision. This technique allows for the dramatic, three-dimensional depth seen in the pomegranates and peaches that wrap around the vessel's body.

  • Renowned Artist: Hirai Shoho was a master of bronze casting during the 20th century. His signature stamp, "Shoho" (昇甫), is clearly visible on the lower section of the vase, certifying its authenticity and artistic pedigree.

  • Symbolic Imagery: The vase is adorned with high-relief motifs of peaches (symbols of longevity) and pomegranates (symbols of fertility and prosperity). The textures of the fruit skins and the delicate veins of the leaves are rendered with stunning realism.
