Japanese Keiten Takahashi "Dō-nagare" Iron & Copper Vase
This square cast vase is a rare work by Keiten Takahashi (1920–2009), a designated Living National Treasure of Japan. It showcases his master-level "Dō-nagare" (Copper Flow) technique, a difficult process documented in the included artist's note.
The "Dō-nagare" Technique:
* Fused Metals: This is not a simple coating; it is a fusion of iron and copper.
* High Difficulty: Because these two metals melt at very different temperatures, blending them into a single cast requires extreme skill.
* One-of-a-Kind: The pattern is formed naturally by the molten metal, meaning the copper "flows" over the iron base in a way that can never be exactly replicated.
* Authentic Response: The vase is magnetic due to its iron core, but the pull is intentionally weakened by the thick layer of fused copper on the surface.
