Vintage Japanese Mulberry Wood Ko-Hikidashi Small Chest with Hidden Secret Compartment 37cm
This is a stunning example of Ko-Hikidashi (traditional Japanese small chest), meticulously crafted from highly-prized Mulberry wood (Kuwa). Known in Japan for its lustrous finish, deep grain, and warm golden-brown hue, Mulberry wood is a luxury material that develops a beautiful patina over time.
This specific chest features an ingenious "Kakushi" (Hidden Secret). While it appears to be a standard six-drawer configuration, the upper-left, deepest drawer conceals a secondary "secret storage box" tucked away at the very back. This clever design, reminiscent of a "puzzle box," was traditionally used to hide family seals, precious jewelry, or important documents.

-
Versatile Storage: Features five external drawers of varying sizes and one deep left-hand section with two internal drawers, providing ample space for jewelry, coins, stationery, or a desk organizer.
