Vintage Japanese Sword Stand Katana Kake Makie Lacquer Phoenix Motif
Description
This is a vintage Japanese wooden sword stand (katana-kake) finished with traditional makie lacquer. Please note that the sword shown in the photos is for display purposes only and is not included in the sale.
The stand features a dark reddish-brown lacquered surface adorned with gold and colored makie. The base depicts a phoenix (hoo) perched on a branch, while the upper sections are decorated with scattered floral and snowflake-like crests. The structure consists of a base, a central pillar, and a removable top piece.
Height: 67.5 cm / 26.57 in
Width: 31.5 cm / 12.40 in
Depth: 25.0 cm / 9.84 in
Weight: 1770 g / 3.90 lbs
The stand is in vintage condition, showing significant signs of aging and historical use. There are noticeable surface scratches, scuffs, and areas where the lacquer has chipped or peeled off. The upper section has a visible repair. The central pillar slightly wobbles at the joint where it inserts into the base. While it can normally hold a shorter sword like a wakizashi, it is unstable and cannot adequately support a heavy, long sword (tachi). If you plan to use it continuously, it is recommended to glue the joint for stability.
Please check the photos carefully for details.
