Description

Vintage Japanese Perforated Bronze Hanging Gong Dora Metal Percussion Instrument BOSa50

This is a vintage Japanese hanging metal percussion instrument, similar in form to a traditional dora gong.

It is made from aged copper-alloy metal, likely bronze or brass, with a shallow circular tray-like form and a raised outer rim. The central striking area has an unusual perforated pattern arranged in concentric rings, surrounding a plain circular center. The center has a shallow concave depression, which appears to be from age, use, or original shaping.

Two small holes are placed on the rim for the woven hanging cord. The surface shows a dark aged patina, oxidation, scratches, abrasions, and residue, giving the piece a strong old Japanese folk-object character.

When struck, it produces a clear metallic sound, although the perforated construction gives it a shorter, drier resonance than a standard temple or ceremony gong. It can be displayed as a decorative Japanese metal object or collected as a vintage percussion / signaling instrument.
