This is a vintage Japanese ceramic okimono (ornament) depicting a Tanuki (raccoon dog), attributed to the Tokoname kiln. It is estimated to date from the mid-Showa period or potentially earlier.
The figure features a highly unusual pose for a Tanuki, raising its right paw in a beckoning gesture similar to a "Maneki-neko" (beckoning cat). It has a traditional round belly and is finished with a dark reddish-brown surface layer. The base shows signs of rustic finishing, and the molding exhibits a soft quality characteristic of older ceramic production.
