Vintage Japanese Buddhist Shakujo Handheld Monk Staff Brass Wood Ritual Tool
This is a vintage Japanese handheld "shakujo" (Buddhist ringed staff). Traditionally used by monks, mountain ascetics (yamabushi), and pilgrims, it is shaken to create a jingling sound that clears the mind during prayers and warns small animals of the traveler's approach.
The upper section is made of metal with attached rings, while the handle is crafted from wood in a hexagonal shape for a solid grip. It can be used as a functional ritual tool or displayed as an authentic cultural artifact to bring a sense of historical tranquility to a meditation space or Zen-inspired room.
