Sale Warmer
This sake warmer is called "Hato-kan" because it is shaped like a pigeon. To warm the sake, the tail end of the pigeon is inserted into the ashes of an irori (traditional Japanese hearth).
This type of sake vessel is known as Hato Tokkuri (Hato-kan Tokkuri) and dates back to the late Edo period.
There is an inscription in ink, possibly a Chinese poem, the name of a sake shop, or the owner's information, but it is written in an old cursive script and is difficult to decipher. It is rare to find an item with such writing.
