Description:
This is a rare Atsumi Yama chawan tea bowl from the late Heian period (794–1185), identified as a Tenba—the topmost bowl in a traditional stacking method used during firing. In medieval Japan, tea bowls were stacked during kiln firing, and the piece placed at the very top was known as a Tenba, making it especially rare and historically valuable.
