A celadon vase with floral design featuring Mishima inlay from the early Joseon period.
Era:Early Joseon period.
This is a rare Buncheong Mishima floral jar from the early Joseon Dynasty (Korea, 15th-16th century). Buncheong ware, known for its distinctive inlaid designs, was a popular ceramic style before the emergence of white porcelain in Korea. This particular piece is decorated with intricate floral motifs, showcasing the characteristic Mishima inlay technique, which was influenced by Korean artisans and later adopted in Japanese pottery. The jar features a unique bulging area on its body, which is a result of high kiln temperatures causing slight expansion—a phenomenon occasionally seen in early Joseon ceramics. Additionally, the rim of the jar has an old gold lacquer repair (kintsugi-like restoration), which enhances its historical character and adds to its aesthetic charm. This is a valuable addition for collectors of Korean antiques, Buncheong ware, and early Joseon pottery. Ships securely from Japan with international tracking. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!
