This is a rare wooden tray with an iron-rim reinforcement, likely from the Meiji period. The iron rim (tetsubuchi) was added to prevent warping and cracking while enhancing durability, a technique believed to originate from the Echigo region (Niigata) and Hida region (Gifu), Japan.
