It is a miniature kabuto ornament made by the armor craftsman Kato Icchu.
In addition to producing armor and helmets for the Boys' Festival decorations, he is involved in repairing and reproducing real armor, as well as creating scaled reproductions. He works with shrines, temples, museums, and archives. In 1987, he was recognized as a traditional craftsman by the Governor of Tokyo. He is a prominent master craftsman in the doll industry and a member of the Japanese Costume History Society.
