This is a vintage Japanese okimono (display figure) crafted from natural wood roots. It depicts an owl (fukuro), utilizing the natural burls and grain of the wood to form the bird's shape and facial features.

Both pieces have been carved and fitted to attach to one another, with the body featuring a cylindrical peg that slots into a corresponding hollow in the head. The surface displays a prominent, swirling wood grain pattern that closely resembles the texture of feathers and the facial discs of an owl.
