Japanese Studio Ceramic Mizusashi Water Jar Crawled Glaze Gradation pottery
Description
This is a Japanese studio pottery mizusashi (water jar for the tea ceremony). It comes with a wooden storage box (tomobako) and a wrapping cloth. There is an incised artist's signature on the base, but the specific creator remains unidentified.
The vessel features a color gradient transitioning from light blue at the top, through white, to earthy brown at the base. The exterior is heavily textured with a deep, crackled and crawled glaze effect (kairagi) covering the entire body, creating a natural, bark-like surface. The matching lid is topped with a pinched, triangular finial.
The effect appears to have been created mainly by glaze contraction during firing, rather than by carved decoration
