Japanese Antique Edo Iron Tsuba Kyoto Kinko Gold Inlay Fuyukiyose Design Sword Guard

The motif reflects the Edo-period appreciation of autumn leaves gathered by the wind, a simple natural scene seen as quietly beautiful.

This is an antique Japanese iron tsuba featuring exceptionally fine gold inlay in the classic Kyoto Kinko style. Its refined composition, warm iron patina, and delicate detailing represent the elegant metalwork traditions of the late Edo period.

The tsuba is crafted from iron and decorated with gold inlay arranged in a “fuyukiyose” scattered motif, a design in which autumn leaves, bamboo, family crests, and small objects appear as if gathered by the wind. This type of composition is closely associated with the Kyoto Kinko school, known for its extremely fine lines, dense and balanced patterns, and reddish-toned iron surface that contrasts beautifully with gold. The piece incorporates several traditional Japanese family crests, such as the Gosan-no-Kiri, Kuyou, Hanabishi, and Ume mon, adding cultural depth and symbolic meaning. The overall workmanship reflects the sophisticated aesthetics of samurai sword fittings in Kyoto during the late Edo era.

This tsuba is ideal for display, collection, or as part of an interior décor arrangement featuring Japanese antiques and samurai art.
