This is an antique Japanese wooden shogi board featuring a deeply weathered, rustic surface that reflects a long history of use. The board showcases a true wabi-sabi aesthetic with its natural aging, cracks, and carved grid lines. On the underside, there are four mortises where legs were once attached, indicating it was originally a traditional floor-style board.
Included with this antique board is a set of wooden shogi pieces in a storage box. Please note that while the board is a deeply aged antique, the included shogi pieces are a relatively newer set, providing a functional contrast to the historical board. This set serves as a fascinating piece of mingei (folk art) for a Japanese-inspired interior, a photography prop, or an authentic cultural artifact.
