Antique Japanese Indigo Sashiko Textile Hand Stitched Patchwork Cloth
Description
This Japanese indigo textile features hand-stitched sashiko reinforcement and patchwork construction. Such stitched cloths were traditionally repaired and reused rather than discarded.
Fan-shaped fields of parallel white stitches appear near the corners, with a contrasting blue rectangular patch near the center. The stitching and fabric joins give the cloth a strong graphic composition.
