Description

This is an antique Japanese Mino ware chawan (tea bowl), dating approximately to the Edo period, likely the 17th–18th century.

The bowl has a simple hand-thrown form with a warm grayish-brown clay body characteristic of old Japanese stoneware. The glaze is concentrated mainly on the interior, while most of the exterior remains unglazed, revealing the natural texture and color of the clay.

A particularly attractive feature is the glaze running slightly over the rim and down the exterior. The warm brown glaze is accompanied by areas of grayish ash-toned glaze, creating an expressive natural surface produced during firing.

The underside retains strong traces of traditional wheel work and finishing, adding to the rustic character of the piece.

Height: 6.5 cm / 2.56 in
Diameter: 11.0 cm / 4.33 in
Weight: 260 g / 0.57 lbs

Considering its age, the bowl is remarkably well preserved, with no major chips or cracks observed. There are natural firing irregularities, kiln marks, surface wear, and age-related characteristics typical of old handmade pottery.
