Description
Vintage Large Japanese Aizu Lacquerware Wood Bowl - Mottled Red & Black 29cm WO574
This is a magnificent and substantial vintage Aizu-nuri (Aizu Lacquerware) bowl from Fukushima Prefecture, one of Japan's most prestigious lacquer traditions. Notable for its exceptional weight and striking visual texture, this bowl is a perfect blend of high-end functional craft and sculptural art.
The bowl features a complex, multi-layered lacquer technique. The exterior is finished with a rustic, textured surface where deep cinnabar red "blooms" through a rich black base, creating a mottled effect similar to the prestigious Kara-nuri style. The interior is a lustrous polished black with dramatic swirls of red, creating a stunning "landscape" (Keshiki) within the vessel.
