Vintage Kyoto Raku Ware Shimadai Matcha Bowl Set Gold Silver Leaf Waraku
This is a set of two vintage Japanese Raku ware matcha bowls, known as Shimadai chawan, crafted by Waraku in Kyoto. The set includes one gold-leaf bowl and one silver-leaf bowl, which are traditionally used together for celebratory tea ceremonies.
Both bowls feature a red Raku (Aka-Raku) ceramic body with a glossy transparent glaze showing fine crackle lines. Genuine gold leaf is applied to the interior of the smaller bowl, and silver leaf is applied to the larger bowl. The unglazed base of each bowl bears the stamped maker's mark of Waraku.

The silver leaf on the interior of the silver bowl shows natural darkening and oxidation from age. Both pieces exhibit fine crazing within the glaze and organic surface variations inherent to traditional Raku firing. The original wooden box shows minor shelf wear and discoloration.
