Vintage Japanese Ceramic Fish Wall Vase Jizai Kagi Yokogi Hearth Hook PV307

This is a vintage Japanese ceramic wall-hanging flower vase (kake-hanaire) designed in the shape of a traditional wooden fish (yokogi) used for a jizai kagi (hearth hook). In traditional Japanese homes, a jizai kagi was suspended over an irori (sunken hearth) to hang an iron kettle, with the fish-shaped lever allowing the height to be adjusted.

Remarkably crafted from pottery, this piece beautifully replicates the look of carved wood deeply aged and blackened by years of hearth soot. It is designed to be hung on a wall, making it a unique vessel for ikebana flower arrangements or a striking rustic wabi-sabi art piece for Japanese-inspired interiors.
