Description
Vintage Japanese Ceramic Mishima Hakeme Plates Set of 5 Shinroku Tsuji Kyoto
This is a set of five vintage Japanese Kyoto ware studio pottery small square plates (meimeizara) crafted by the ceramic artist Shinroku Tsuji, complete with a wooden storage box. Born in 1905, Tsuji served as a technician at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Ceramic Research Institute before establishing his kiln in Yamashina, Kyoto.
The plates are decorated using a combination of Hakeme (brushed white slip) and Mishima (stamped decoration) techniques. The front surface features white slip brushstrokes and underglaze painted characters, while the sides show slightly upturned, hand-formed contours. The reverse side reveals the exposed reddish-brown clay stamped with the artist's signature hexagonal mark as documented in Image16.
