This is a mask specifically for the Noh dance story called "Daie," which belongs to the Tengu category. Story synopsis: A Tengu, dressed as a mountain ascetic, appears in the hermitage of a monk on Mount Hiei, saying he wishes to repay the monk's kindness for saving his life by granting him a wish. When the monk expresses his desire to witness Buddha preaching, the Tengu gladly agrees to recreate the scene. However, he is punished by Taishakuten (Indra) and is forced to flee.
