Kikyoku is one of the tea utensils used in Sencha tea ceremony.
This is a red lacquer Kikyoku box.
This box is used for displaying or storing sencha utensils.
The word "Iseya" is written in Kanji on the side.
On the other side, "Iseya" is written in hiragana.
This is a trade name used by many merchants from Ise.
There is a family crest on the front, but it is illegible.
The four corners of the box are made of old Edo period iron supporting the box firmly.
Today, it can be displayed as is but can also be used for various storage purposes.
