This is a wooden Iga braid weaving tool.
This is a small object representing an Iga Kumihimo weaving tool. Originally, such tools are much larger, like a loom. While it is possible to weave a small kumihimo braid if you follow the steps, please consider this as an ornamental object.
The origin of Iga Kumihimo dates back to ancient times, even before the Nara period. Initially used for Buddhist and Shinto ritual objects, the production shifted to making cords for armor and swords during the medieval period, when the samurai class was prominent. After the Edo period ended and the Haitōrei (Sword Abolishment Edict) was issued, leading to the collapse of the samurai society, these cords began to be used for obi-jime (kimono sash cords) and haori-himo (traditional jacket cords)
