Description
Atsumi Yama chawan.
This chawan has areas where it is fused together due to being stacked and fired. As a result of separating the two pieces, one piece has a ceramic fragment attached to it, while the other has a circular hole. When the two pieces are joined together, the hole is covered up (please see the image for reference).
The Kamakura-period Atsumi ware is an important part of Japan's ceramic history. The chawan (tea bowl) made during this time period are characterized by their beautiful curves and unique color combinations, reflecting Japan's aesthetic sensibilities.
The rarity of Atsumi-yaki (Chita Peninsula, Aichi Prefecture) chawan is due to the fact that the production volume of Kamakura-period Atsumi-yaki was very low and many pieces have been lost over time. In addition, Atsumi-yaki from this period was produced using highly advanced techniques such as high-temperature firing and glazing, making it superior in quality. As a result, Kamakura-period Atsumi-yaki chawan are still highly regarded for their beauty and rarity today.
