Description
DESCRIPTION
This is a Karatsu ware bowl cup.
Era: Edo period
Around the 17th century, there were quite a few kilns in Karatsu ware.
There were more than 60 kilns in the initial stage.
(Kishidake, Matsuura, Takeo, and Hirado systems)
This is from Yamase, which belongs to the Kishidake lineage.
(Present address: Yamase Kamiyamase, Hamatama-cho, Higashimatsuura-gun, Saga Prefecture)
One of the features is that the back of the koudai (the back of the bottom part) is shriveled up like dry earth.
This is probably due to the fact that it is carved out of hard soil.
The soil is the original soil (red clay) of Yamase with high iron content.
The glaze tone is called madara yu (a kind of reactive glaze), so called because of its speckled pattern.
It is a cloudy white straw ash glaze.
The size is Choko (small cup), the same size as a sake drinking vessel. There is one small glaze flake (chip) on the mouth rim.
