Vintage Japanese Akahada Ware Matcha Tea Bowl Gyokusen Chawan PCP302

This is a vintage Japanese Akahada ware matcha tea bowl (chawan) crafted by Gyokusen, contained in a fitted tomobako (wooden storage box). Akahada pottery is a traditional style from Nara Prefecture.

The bowl features a milky white or light cream-colored glaze with subtle natural speckling and pinholes across the surface. The glaze terminates unevenly near the base, exposing the unglazed reddish-brown clay body beneath. An incised potter's mark reading Akahada-yama Gyokusen is stamped on the unglazed bottom surface. The wooden box includes black ink calligraphy and a red artist seal on its lid.

Size:
Tea Bowl: 11.7 x 11.7 x 8.0 cm / 4.6 x 4.6 x 3.1 in
Wooden Box: 14.0 x 14.0 x 11.0 cm / 5.5 x 5.5 x 4.3 in
Weight: 322 g / 0.71 lbs

Condition:
There are signs of aging and use. The ceramic bowl has light surface scuffs and typical kiln variations in the glaze, including minor brown spotting near the interior rim. The unglazed base shows natural clay roughness. The wooden box has minor surface scratches, faint stains, and discoloration consistent with age.
