This is a rare and authentic Japanese indigo-dyed katazome sarasa textile from the late Edo to early Meiji period (mid-to-late 19th century). Unlike brightly colored fabrics, this piece exudes a refined calm with its soft, faded reds and gently weathered indigo ground, achieved through natural plant dyes and more than a century of graceful aging.

The design features the auspicious phoenix, symbolizing longevity and prosperity, intertwined with flowing botanical motifs. Hand-dyed using Ise-katagami stencils, the craftsmanship is evident in the fine detail and harmonious balance of the composition.

Its impressive length of 348 cm (137 inches) makes it both a remarkable collector’s piece and a versatile textile for creative use.
