Vintage Japanese Bronze Vase Masahiko Katori Living National Treasure BV343

This is a vintage Japanese cast bronze vase crafted by Masahiko Katori, a highly esteemed metalwork artist who was designated as a Living National Treasure of Japan in 1977. The underside of the vase bears his cast signature, "Masahiko," and it comes complete with its original inscribed wooden storage box (tomobako) and a small informational pamphlet.

The vase features an elegant, bulbous body that tapers up to a flared neck. What makes this piece truly exceptional is its striking, mottled patina—a dynamic blend of deep earthy browns and vibrant reddish-orange hues that resemble abstract brushstrokes across the metallic surface. This masterful coloring technique exemplifies Katori's profound skill and artistic vision. It serves as a magnificent vessel for ikebana or stands alone as a museum-quality sculptural artifact, perfect for bringing a touch of refined Japanese artistry to modern interiors.
