This refined wooden tobacco tray was crafted by renowned sashimono (traditional joinery) master Kimura Shogoro during the Meiji period. Originally used for storing tobacco and small personal items, this elegant piece now serves beautifully as a decorative flower stand or functional organizer, blending practicality with historical charm.
Made from beautifully grained natural wood, the piece features a multi-tiered structure with an open tray on top and drawers below. Its smooth finish, clean lines, and precise joints reflect the skill of traditional Japanese woodworking. The original wooden storage box, inscribed with the character for “tobacco” (煙草), further enhances its authenticity and collectible value.
As shown in the photo, placing a kenzan (needle flower frog) inside and arranging seasonal flowers makes for a stunning floral display.
When using it for flower arrangement, please place a shallow container with water inside the main body—deep enough to submerge the kenzan.
