Edo Period Japanese Antique Iron Copper Teshoku Candle Stand Narcissus Flower
This is an antique Japanese hand-held candle stand (teshoku) dating from the Edo period (17th–19th century). The piece is constructed using a combination of iron and copper.
The stand is forged in the shape of a narcissus (suisen) flower. The stem and leaves, which form the handle, are made of iron, while the petal-shaped candle cup at the top is crafted from copper (or copper alloy). The design is intended for carrying by hand or placement on flat surfaces such as tatami mats.
