Although many parts are difficult to decipher due to the brush-written calligraphy, the box is inscribed as follows:
In Meiji 8 (1875), it was stored in the Great Buddha Hall (Daibutsuden) in Nanto (Nara).

Overall significance:
This Futaku (hanging bell) is a highly venerable Buddhist ritual object, documented in ancient temples of Nanto (Nara).
It is associated with renowned monks,
and is said to have passed through Myōken-ji Temple before becoming the possession of a certain individual.
It is considered an item of exceptional historical and religious value.
