Early 20th Century Japanese Bronze Vase by Yoshimitsu – Kinjiro Ogasawara Statue Commemorative BV773

This is an antique Japanese bronze vase by Yoshimitsu, produced by the Ogasawara Foundry as a commemorative piece associated with the statue of Kinjiro Ogasawara.

Based on its style, construction, surface patina, and overall aging, the vase is believed to date from the early 20th century, possibly the early Showa period.

The vase has a tall, elegant profile with a gently flared mouth and a warm brown patina developed over time. The front is decorated with a finely worked motif of a deer standing on a rocky landscape, accompanied by a subtle crescent moon. The restrained design gives the piece a distinctly Japanese and atmospheric character.

Several inscriptions are engraved on the body. They include “Yoshimitsu saku” (Made by Yoshimitsu), “Ogasawara Chuzojo” (Ogasawara Foundry), and an inscription referring to the commemoration of the statue of Kinjiro Ogasawara. These inscriptions give the vase an interesting historical and commemorative background beyond its decorative qualities.

A wooden storage box is included. The box bears faded handwritten inscriptions, although some characters are now difficult to read.

Condition:

The wooden storage box shows natural discoloration, wear, and a crack in one of the wooden panels. The handwritten inscriptions on the box have faded with age.
