This is an Antique Japanese Jizai Kagi, a traditional adjustable hearth hook used in Irori fireplaces. Skillfully carved from wood in the shape of a carp, it reflects the symbolic meaning of strength and perseverance in Japanese culture.
The Jizai Kagi served as a functional and decorative element in traditional Japanese homes, suspending kettles or pots over the Irori hearth. The detailed carving of the carp, combined with the natural aging of the wood, makes this piece a compelling example of Japanese folk art.
