■ Description Item Details This is a stunning Japanese Otani-yaki (Otani Ware) flower vase, created by the ceramic artist Yano Kanichi (矢野款一). It features a sophisticated "Western-style" or Modernist design that resembles metallic art. Technique (Ibushi-yaki): The vase is made using the "Ibushi" (Smoking) technique, traditionally used for Japanese roof tiles. This process creates a unique metallic, silvery-black carbonized finish that looks like iron or bronze but is actually ceramic. Design: It has a bold oval shape with sharp vertical fluting (carved lines) and accents of green glaze, giving it a very stylish, mid-century modern aesthetic. Artist: Yano Kanichi. Born in 1942 in Tokushima. A prominent artist of the Otani kiln, known for reviving and innovating the "Ibushi" technique for artistic pottery.
