Antique Japanese Imari Sometsuke Set - Tako Karakusa Slender Vase & Kozara Plate IP133

This is a charming set of two authentic Japanese Imari Sometsuke (underglaze blue and white) ceramics. The set includes a slender Tokkuri (sake bottle), perfect for use as an Ichirin-zashi (single-flower vase), and a matching Kozara (small plate).

The vase features the highly collectible Tako Karakusa (Octopus Arabesque) pattern, a classic motif characterized by its bold, swirling vines that wrap elegantly around the vessel's body. The small plate displays a central floral motif surrounded by delicate arabesque borders and a beautiful network of natural crackle (kannyu) under the glaze.

Key Features:

  • Classic Tako Karakusa: The hand-painted blue scrolls on the vase are a hallmark of traditional Imari ware and are prized by collectors for their graphic appeal.

  • Wabi-Sabi Aesthetic: The small plate features a rich "kannyu" (fine crackle) and a professional restoration on the rim, embodying the beauty of objects that have been cherished and cared for over generations.

  • Versatile Decor: The slender silhouette of the 17cm vase makes it an ideal accent for a Zen-style interior, while the small plate is perfect for display or use in tea ceremonies.

Size (Approx.):

  • Vase (Tokkuri): 17.0 x 6.7 cm / 6.7 x 2.6 in

  • Small Plate (Kozara): 9.5 x 2.4 cm / 3.7 x 0.9 in

  • Total Weight: 306 g / 0.67 lbs

Condition: Good antique condition with authentic age-related character. The vase is structurally sound. The small plate has a visible professional repair on the rim. This restoration was skillfully executed to preserve the integrity and historical value of the piece. Please note that the red lacquer tray shown in the photos is for display purposes only and is not included in the sale.
