Japanese Traditional Fukube-zaiku Large Gourd Bowl Vessel Tochigi Set 2pc

This is a set of two Japanese gourd items, including a large bowl-shaped vessel and a small whole gourd. These pieces are examples of Fukube-zaiku, a traditional craft from Tochigi Prefecture made from dried and hollowed-out Yugao (bottle gourd).

The large vessel features a wide opening and a metal handle, finished with a polished orange-brown exterior and a red-and-black interior. Historically, these large gourd containers were used in Japanese farmhouses as functional vessels for holding charcoal (sumitori) or storing seeds. The set includes a smaller, natural-finish gourd.
