Description

Rare Masterpiece: Hand-Forged Iron Candlestick by Izumo Swordsmith "Hiromitsu" - Double Signed

A vintage to antique piece.

This is an exceptional piece of Japanese functional art: a hand-forged iron candlestick (Shokudai) created by the renowned forge Hiromitsu from the historic Izumo region. Izumo is legendary as the "Holy Land of Iron" in Japan, famous for its ancient Tatara iron-smelting traditions that produce the steel for Katana.

The Craftsmanship of a Master Smith:

  • Lineage of Fire: The Hiromitsu forge has its roots in the Edo period. Their smiths possess the same elite forging skills used to create Japanese swords. This candlestick is not cast in a mold; it is hand-beaten and shaped from a single bar of iron, resulting in a soul-stirring, rugged texture.

  • Double Signature: This rare specimen features the artist's name, "弘光 (Hiromitsu)," deeply engraved in two separate locations, certifying its authenticity and high-tier quality.

  • Rattan-Wrapped Handle: The handle is meticulously wrapped in Natural Rattan (Tou), a traditional Japanese technique providing both a secure grip and elegant thermal insulation.

  • Exceptional Design: The three-legged base provides perfect stability, while the sharp central spike is designed to secure traditional Japanese wax candles (Wa-rosoku). The sweeping curve of the drip pan captures the essence of Zen minimalism.

Specifications:
