He began his Noh mask carving training in 1970 (Showa 45), studying under Mr. Shosho Watanabe.
In 1975 (Showa 50), he became independent and established the Noh mask carving school "Menjūkai," holding annual exhibitions.
From March 1991 (Heisei 3), residing in Kanazawa-ku's Kamariya Higashi, he began practicing utaibon (Noh chant) under the tutelage of Mr. Chikufu Tanabe, a shite-kata (main actor) of the Kanze school.
In 1995 (Heisei 7), he was appointed as an instructor for Noh mask carving at Yomiuri Culture Center.
In 2000 (Heisei 12), he was selected as one of the top 50 participants in the Noh Mask Carving Contest in Ikeda-cho, Fukui Prefecture.
In 2003 (Heisei 15), he won the Grand Prize at the "Noh and Kyōgen Painting Grand Prix 2003" sponsored by the Yokohama Nōgakudō.
It is noted that he is "pushing his aging body and challenging himself limitlessly in both Noh mask carving and utaibon training".
He also has a background as a seaman, in addition to his work as a Noh mask carver.
