Description

Antique Japanese Bizen Ware Jar Tsubo - Momoyama Period (16th Century) 3.2kg BW80

This is an authentic Antique Bizen ware jar (Tsubo) dating back to the Momoyama Period (late 16th century). As one of Japan's "Six Ancient Kilns," Bizen pottery from this era is highly prized for its rugged, unglazed beauty and powerful presence.

Key Features:

  • Momoyama Period Heritage: A rare survivor from over 400 years ago, showcasing classic wood-fired textures and natural ash effects.

  • Wabi-Sabi Aesthetic: The irregular rim and earthy patina represent the pinnacle of Japanese tea ceremony aesthetics.

  • Substantial Presence: Weighing 3.2kg, it offers a solid and dignified display for any collection.

Specifications:

  • Height: 24.0 cm / 9.4 in

  • Width: 20.0 cm / 7.9 in

  • Total Weight: 3200 g / 7.05 lbs

  • Material: Stoneware (Bizen-yaki)

Condition & Usage Note (Important):

  • Water Leakage: Due to its age and visible cracks, this jar is not watertight.

  • For Flower Arrangement: We strongly recommend using an "Otoshi" (an internal liner or separate waterproof container, such as a bamboo tube or plastic cylinder) to hold water inside the jar. This is a standard practice for displaying flowers in ancient Japanese pottery.

  • Detailed Crack Information: There is a hairline crack approx. 15cm long running upwards from a break at the base. "Image 2: Enlarged views (Images 11, 12, 13, and 14)" While hard to see with the naked eye, we have provided magnified photos. The jar remains structurally stable and is not at risk of breaking apart during normal display.
