Description

 
 This is an antique Japanese wooden ko-dansu (small chest of drawers), dating from the late Edo to early Meiji period. It is crafted from cedar wood (sugi).

The chest is slightly larger in size and features a top-opening hinged lid along with four drawers of varying sizes on the front panel. The exterior is finished with a reddish-brown lacquer that allows the natural straight wood grain to show through. It has a fan-shaped cutout on the side and is fitted with simple metal drawer pulls and hinges.

The chest is in antique condition, showing signs of aging and historical use. There are visible surface scratches, scuffs, natural wear to the wood, and notable peeling and chipping of the lacquer, particularly along the edges, corners, and hinge areas.
