Japanese Bronze Jakago River Basket Flower Holder Ikebana Suiban Tenpai Zen BV69

Description This is a distinctive Japanese bronze flower holder (Hana-dome) designed in the motif of a "Jakago" (Gabion). A Jakago is a traditional woven bamboo basket filled with stones, historically used along Japanese riverbanks to prevent erosion. In the world of Tea Ceremony and Ikebana (flower arrangement), this riverbank motif is poetic; it is often used to evoke the refreshing imagery of a flowing stream, cool water, and a summer breeze.

This piece is cast in bronze with an openwork lattice design. It is functionally designed to be placed in a shallow vessel (Suiban) to hold flower stems in place through its mesh, or simply displayed as a Tenpai (ornamental object) alongside Bonsai or Suiseki to create a landscape scene. The bronze has developed a natural, aged patina, giving it a rustic Wabi-sabi aesthetic that complements both traditional tatami rooms and modern industrial interiors.
