This is a sakazukidai (cup stand) created between the late Edo period and the early Meiji period, adorned with exquisite takamakie (raised lacquer) decoration. The piece was crafted using traditional Japanese lacquerware techniques, and what stands out most is the stunning makie motif of "Koi no Takinobori" (Carp Climbing the Waterfall).
The carp climbing the waterfall is a traditional Japanese symbol of good fortune, representing strength, success, and advancement.
